LATEST DEVELOPMENTS AT SOUTHERN COIL

Purchase of New Vertical Expander. (February 2024)
We have recently imported a few machines. We have imported a vertical expander that comes with in built flaring tool. It can accommodate larger sizes than the previous machine. The main improvement area would be in the brazing joints since the surfaces will be more uniform than what was achieved in the manual flaring process. This will result in better quality of joints as well as better visual appearance.
Purchase of New Coil Bender.(February 2024)
We have also procured a new coil bending machine. This helps in making bend coils in various shapes like L, U and G shapes with high accuracy and repeatability. Coils will be mechanically expanded before the bending process ensuring high efficiency of the coils.
Upgrading of machinery.(January 2024)
We have upgraded the Copper tube straightening, cutting and bending machines. This should result in improved finish to the copper tube cutting edges as well as lesser wrinkles in the hair pin bends. Lesser wastage is also expected which would help us in keeping the costs under control.
Waste Management and Environmental Responsibility.(December 2023)
We have a newly renewed focus on overall waste management in the plant. We are closely monitoring raw material wastage at each stage of the production process. The reasons for wastage and losses are tracked and analysed and we are implementing targeted action to counter them. Beyond waste management to save costs, we also realize and embrace the fact that waste management directly impacts the environment. Waste management techniques are also being applied to other wastes like paper, plastic, water, etc. By using reusable steel cups and avoiding paper printing through use of systems and tablets in key places, we were able to reduce paper usage by approximately 790 kgs per year. We are effectively able to recycle approximately 340 kgs of plastic in a year by training on proper disposal and 5S methods.
Live Production Management through web application.(July 2023)
The manufacturing process and order management was already on a web application since 2016. However, we have revamped the application to encompass each step of the production process. Now each stage in the process has access to the application through a system where the order flow seamlessly. The operators are able to interact live with the orders, read important information before processing an order and update information in to the order like details of raw material used etc. This has resulted in a smoother flow or orders, high efficiency gains, tracking section wise performance, effective production planning and commitment on delivery dates and many other aspects. We will soon be releasing the application to our customers so that they can track their orders live and also have access to historic data of their orders for easy future reference.
Training Programs.(March 2023)
Focus on training has been high in the previous year. We have ensure there are regular training programs scheduled well in advance. The training programs encompass vital training like fire safety, as well as management training in 5S and various company policies to cross operational training where the technicians are trained in different machines to build a multi skilled and empowered workforce to deal with any challenges in the future.
